Cinnamon buns!

So a few weeks ago, I made a batch of cinnamon buns and they faile dismally! It’s been a long time since I’d made bread that I kind of forgot how taxing it is to knead by hand. =( I got tired kneading and roped in my mum to help. She got impatient too, and despite knowing that the dough was definitely not ready, I gave the go ahead and we left it proof.

They looked uber cute all rolled out and stuff:

This was before the second proofing where they’d double in size and then we pop them into the oven.

And obviously, because the dough wasn’t kneaded enough to become anything that could turn out into bread, when baked, we got hard lil biscuits. =(

The sugar glaze was gross. And it looked gross too. Haha. ^_^;;

Anyways, never say DIE! (Is this a chinese-related translated phrase?) I started whining about how we should get a bread machine, etc etc… And things happened and we borrowed one off our cousin. She bought it secondhand years ago and had never used it. And OMG. I’m soo in love! More on this in a later post!

So with the machine, our dough turned out uber well. =D This was attempt two with bread machine:

If I recall right, this was after the second proofing, just before popping into the oven.

I used the recipe found here.

The bread wasn’t as soft as I’d like, even straight out of the oven, and since they were already brownish, I didn’t want to dry them out even more by letting stay longer:

Looks a bit dry cos of missing glaze. =D But it was a success! Finally. Though for some reason, I can’t seem to get the cinnamon mixture right. =( Either I put too much or put too little, and I keep getting reminded of “han chim peng” instead of cinnamon buns when I eat them.

I doubt I’ll try again. Maybe only after I’ve eaten another real cinnamon bun and want to emulate the flavour. In truth, it’s been so long since I last ate one that I’m creating what seems like an ideal, without knowing exactly what the ideal tastes like. ^_^;;
